VOLUNTEER

Come join us in having fun and saving lives.

FRIENDS OF METRO ANIMAL CARE AND CONTROL (MACC) IS A 100% VOLUNTEER ORGANIZATION.

Without volunteers, we wouldn’t exist. Friends of MACC volunteers help with the business of running our organization, coordinate fundraising and community events, serve on board committees, and assist with other programs that support the shelter. MACC volunteers walk and enrich dogs, socialize cats, perform housekeeping and clerical tasks, and so much more!

BECOME A VOLUNTEER!

Volunteer orientations are typically held at MACC (map) three times a month. You'll learn more about volunteer roles and responsibilities, get a tour of MACC, and learn how you can become involved in Friends of MACC's efforts to support the shelter, its occupants, and the community.

Volunteer orientations are currently on hold due to coronavirus.
Email
volunteer.macc@nashville.gov to be notified when they begin again.

I'M NOT 18 YET! CAN I VOLUNTEER?

From: https://www.nashville.gov/Health-Department/Animal-Care-and-Control/Volunteer.aspx
  • Ages 16-17 can volunteer in any capacity, and just require a parent or guardian's sign-off before volunteering.
  • Ages 12-15 can volunteer along with a parent or guardian. 12-15 year olds work with their adult partner, together at all times, and can participate in many of the available volunteer projects.
  • For Friends of MACC ages 11 and under, we encourage them to help the shelter through at home project opportunities, including donation drives, making dog treat bags, and making cat mats.  Email MACC's Volunteer Coordinator for more information about these projects.

ISN'T VOLUNTEERING AT A SHELTER SAD? I'M NOT SO SURE I COULD DO IT.

We get this question a lot, and we understand.

Just like everything else in life, volunteering isn't perfect - but it is so rewarding and SO MUCH FUN! We get to see lost pets reunite with their families; shy, timid homeless animals transformed into happy, vibrant pets; sick animals healed; and our amazing community rallying together to make all of this happen every day.

Oh, and we get to play with dogs and cats (and bunnies and sometimes pigs and birds and...well, you get the point).

But don't take our word for it - check out what some of our current volunteers have to say!

The best part about volunteering is that there's something for everyone...
I’ve been volunteering for over a year at MACC and love giving back to the shelter and the Nashville community! I foster kittens, help with animal adoptions and enrichment, support staff members, and have more fun tackling the never-ending pile of laundry than I should! I am also actively involved in Friends of MACC fundraising efforts, and have met some of my very favorite people through the shelter. They are compassionate, kind, and FUN! The best part about volunteering is that there’s something for everyone - whether you can come to the shelter often or not! And when you’re having a bad (or good!) day, there’s nothing better than knowing you made a difference in the lives of these animals.
